As Scott and I are about to begin our married lives together, I find myself pondering whether we might really be country mice (just for a bit). While I love New York and couldn't have wished to grow up anywhere else, a year or so in a more idyllic setting could be a fabulous thing. Of course this raises personal and professional questions -- but I would just love to know what living and working out of an old home with a porch and a garden could be like... I can't help but think it'd be grand* >> 1) in the why not category: pearls {miriam haskell for j.crew} 2) floral faced watch 3) ruffle shift dress 4) KJP Croffix Sailing belt 5) bean men's fisherman's sweater 6) Town Mouse Country Mouse 7) orvis men's game bird pants 8) beautiful found notebook 9) gorgeous 10) mj shoulder saddlery bag 11) know-it-all pencils 12) milk glass vases 13) keep your passport handy 14) required reading: country gentleman 15) love victrolas! 16) vintage J.Press catalog 17) and for breakfast? steel cut oats

I, too, love living in the city, but a quiet country home is in order for the future. just for a weekend escape! it's nice to get out of the city once in awhile :)
love old fisherman's sweaters. I wish I could pull them off..
I'm a city mouse for certain but I just adore how these pieces could seamlessly transition a wardrobe from town to country + back once more {especially smitten with that MJ saddle bag}. Hope you're wonderfully well, Mrs.!
Perhaps some time in New Jersey or New York state? I grew up in NJ, went to school in NYC, and I love being able to get to the city quickly, but still being able to sit outdoors on a porch and fall asleep to the crickets at night (rather than the subway). I can already see from all the beautiful things in this post, you'd make an excellent country mouse.
I am SUCH a country mouse! I grew up in a 200 year-old farmhouse on a dirt road in Maine and it was heaven! I will have that again some day! Love this collection, especially that ruffled dress!
Can you be my country-mouse event planner/interior designer/life organizer when I find a big ole' farmhouse someday? please and thank you.
I would like one of all of the above!
Absolutely agree with you, beautiful collage as usual
My problem is that I enjoy being a both sort of mouses equally, haha. That makes it hard to decide where to live. I guess I can just keep switching back and forth...
I understand your thinking. although I did not grow up in a big city (it would take us 30mins to drive to the closest grocery store), after living in nyc for a couple years now, I can not wait to have a place out of the city, quiet and peacefull. when you live in the country, it's just a more relaxed and laid back atmosphere. it's beautiful! xx Kirby
Of all the pretty things, the one thing I want the most is that gorgeous sweater. Is that weird?
*sigh* lovely.
I'm such a city mouse! But I do wonder what life would be like living in the country? Would it be more serene and peaceful? Or would I just want to keep going to the city? :) I'll just keep dreaming...! This is such a lovely, lovely collage. I'm swept away by it!
I just love everything that you put together! It looks amazing!

Hello Jane~
I'm back from vacation(!) and wow...your wedding is so very close. How exciting and maybe a little nerve-wracking at the same time!
I love this post because my husband and I have struggled with the same notion. I don't live in the city, but I don't live in the country either and I sometimes long for the exact things you mentioned, namely a front porch to sit and read, drink coffee (or sweet tea:), and connect with others. I just posted pictures from our vacation and named it "{Wine} Country @ heart" because although this isn't exactly the 'southern country', being on vacation in that area makes me question whether I'm really living my life in the right spot. So, hats off to you guys for really taking the time to ponder (and decide) these 'things' upfront:).
Glad to be back and look forward to hearing about more wedding updates!!!
Jane your collages are so delightful it's high time I put my admiration in a comment! I still have your "future summer cottage" tacked up in my office - the one Katie Armour had posted back in May. And I'm about to hit print on this one, too... give me that fisherman's sweater and those tasselled flats and I'd be one very happy country mouse! All the best Jane, enjoy the week!
your collages really are what dreams are made of! I am totally torn between city and country life, definitely a city girl through and through but definitely could see myself settling down living the small town life someday, probably living the best of both worlds would be my dream, city living and country escaping! xoxo ashley
Natalie, that is too sweet - so glad you enjoy my collages so much! And I always love to hear from (new to me) readers - thanks for piping up:)
xx, Jane
