To do this July...

June flew by...I'm not quite sure what happened, except that I had my 10-year high school reunion, went to Martha's Vineyard and Montauk, which were both lovely, and spent [far too many] hours watching the World Cup...and suddenly July! In an effort to stay upbeat despite the sudden heat and humidity, I jotted down a little list of things to do. Have a happy July, and a happy 4th! x

Ocracoke: Where time stands still

I spent the last week on Ocracoke, a sliver of an island in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. It was a true throwback in time, where locals and tourists peddle beach cruisers about town and feast on the fishermens' catch of the day. A 3.5 hour ferry ride from shore, its remoteness only enhances the pristine, undeveloped charm of the island.

Don't Miss: Eduardo's Taco Stand – the best fish tacos you will eat! Dajio's oyster plate. A couple nights at the quaint Crew's Inn (my family and friends rented the whole B and B for our stay, which was perfect for 10 people). Ocracoke Island Beach. The lighthouse. Beach cruiser rentals. Homemade Ice Cream in the noon sun from Sweet Tooth. Apres-beach cocktail hour at Howard's

happy mother's day

My mom's love of art, travel, cooking, and little luxuries (the apple doesn't fall far...) puts these gifts at the top of my list this mother's day. On Sunday, we'll be visiting the botanical gardens and surely feasting on our favorite treat of lobster and champagne for dinner. To every mom: happy mother's day!

Tartan wool throws, fishermen sweaters and LLBean boots can finally be tucked into the depths of the closet, while summery discoveries you've long since forgot you owned get tugged out. With this little spring ritual, it's fun to rediscover the old (while repurposing in different ways), and of course adding new gems to your collection. For me, there's no greater perennial luxury than indulging in new set of crisp white sheets. Last spring I was smitten with green, but I'm currently having a case of the blues...
