Rebecca de Ravenel goes west

When I first saw Rebecca's west village apartment I was smitten with her eye, and talent for incorporating natural elements into her decor. The rattan and linen textures flow seamlessly with the plant-life silhouettes, whimsical animals, and seaside palette. Her ability to bring the outdoors in breathes life and a playful sense of possibility into this compact city apartment. When I came across these images of her West Coast abode I fell in love all over again with her wonderful aesthetic. Just the inspiration I needed to get going on a little spring sprucing!

ten little Jollifiers for the home

I'm sure we all own a copy of Deborah Needleman's The Perfectly Imperfect Home (if you don't, run and get it!), in which she devotes a chapter to jollifiers. She describes these as "sentimental things that spread a little joy every time you cast your eye upon them. They are among the easiest decorating tools, as they require no skill, no sophisticated understanding of color, texture or composition. You basically set them out and, like talismans, they exude their subtle power." While these might not have a sentimental place in your heart (yet!), they're certain to spread a little joy. I could jollify all day long... here are 10 new favorites:

Beth Blake and Corbin Day's Colorful Sag Harbor Escape

I am completely in love with the use of color in this whimsical Sag Harbor home. The crisp white walls allow the furniture and pillows to pop, and I could hardly imagine a more fun place to call home! The bedroom is simply perfect, in a classic, calming blue palette, and the front yard won me over – hook, line, and sinker. Blake notes, “We wanted it to feel like your grandmother lived there—but a grandmother who had really great taste.” Mission accomplished, I say. This is seaside living at its best.
