why don't you {stay awhile}

H-a-p-p-y Friday* Sometimes when I'm buried under a pile of pantone chips and paper swatches, making coffee at midnight to meet a deadline, I fantasize about more luxurious ventures. I was recently researching vintage prints for a set of social occasion cards (think Mrs. John L. Strong) and stumbled across several treasures - my favorites have to be those of Celia Birtwell.  Their playful yet sophisticated nature seems to be lacking in the world of hotel décor in particular, leading me to throw together this little inspiration board. I have no professional experience with interiors (obviously) or guest services, these are just my suggestions as a traveler of the world >  c-o-l-o-r - you're on vacation, who wants to be holed up in a bland room.. I suggest Celia Birtwell's prints as a starting point; a-r-t - I don’t need a Matisse, but spare the photo realist palm trees;  t-y-p-e-w-r-i-t-er - really should be added to the list of standard amenities; the t-i-m-e-s - sorry USA Today; good c-o-f-f-e-e - I generally eat one meal a day at the hotel, breakfast, and find it unacceptable to serve sub-par espresso drinks; an eclectic statement piece or two - just to keep things interesting…

What would you add to the list?

cecil beaton for the home

I l-o-v-e these textiles, made from the marvelous sketches of legendary photographer, film and stage designer, Cecil Beaton. They were designed from the archives of his sketchbooks and floating paint strokes on his canvases. I would just die for a set of upholstered armchairs... to quote the man himself, "All I want is the best of everything and there's very little of that left."

animal prints

These animal print fabrics by Liberty of London are quite fun and summery – perfect for a dash of the unexpected. {swatches from here}

I hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing holiday weekend.
